RENOVATION OVERVIEW

This Grey Lynn villa had been renovated in the 90's but the bathrooms and laundry were feeling tired and had some maintenance issues.  The clients wanted the new spaces to feel elegant and modern whilst honoring the heritage of the home.

MAIN BATHROOM

The main bathroom is situated off the hallway and is seen by guests as you walk through the house. To create cohesion we designed the vanity and shelving in oak to match the flooring, this added warmth and complemented the raw brass tapware.

The cast iron bath was powder coated a deep inky charcoal to give visual weight and a focal point as it sits beneath the double hung window. Reeded glass was used for the shower, keeping bottles and clutter out of sight for guests using the bathroom.

Two tone terrazzo tiles in a bordered diamond pattern on the floor and up to dado line on the walls add a heritage european influence. The honed Calacatta Macchia Vecchia marble blends the bathroom palette together with its gold, greys and inky blues, its' life and patina will age beautifully alongside the home and its raw brass tapware.

ENSUITE

The ensuite is very compact but we wanted it to have its moment, despite the size. The marble is the focal point of this room with its incredible colours and veining, we utilised this for the vanity top, upstand and apron for maximum impact. The vanity was lacquered to match the bath, it grounds the room and complements the stone. The push to open drawer fronts were designed with a fine bead detailing around the drawers which speaks to the fine brass detailing around the 3 arched mirrors.  The central arched mirror is fixed allowing for a demister. The outer mirrors on either size have a cabinet behind, which house the power points and everyday essentials including a vertical strip light for applying makeup. The half wall and reeded glass give privacy as well as hide clutter.

LAUNDRY

The focus for the laundry was creating a clutter free space with as much storage as possible. We used traditional shaker style cabinet fronts in here, the same profile as the main bathroom but lacquered in a warm white to keep the space feeling fresh. Upper cupboards, drawers and open shelves for washing baskets keep the compact space functional.
